Bob Donovan Calls Milwaukee’s New Mask Mandate ‘99% Useless’

Milwaukee Mayoral candidate Bob Donovan opposes the City of Milwaukee’s new mask mandate, releasing a press release titled, “FOLLOW THE SCIENCE, FOLKS— MILWAUKEE’S NEW CLOTH MASK MANDATE IS 99% USELESS!”

The Milwaukee Common Council is requiring those age three and older to wear masks inside Milwaukee businesses until March 2022. Donovan, a former city alderman, is a candidate for Milwaukee mayor.

“So I don’t get into trouble with Facebook regarding my opinion over the likelihood of a new cloth mask mandate in the City of Milwaukee, I will quote only liberal media sources to back up my position,” Donovan said.

Here is the rest of Donovan’s press release:

“Cloth masks are little more than facial decorations. There’s no place for them in light of Omicron,” CNN medical analyst Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency physician and visiting professor of health policy and management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, recently said this month on “CNN Newsroom.”

CNN further reported that cloth masks have 75% inward and outward leakage, which the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists defines as the “percentage of particles entering the facepiece” and the “percentage of particles exhaled by a source exiting the facepiece,” respectively.

Newsweek cited a study that set out to compare how well cloth face masks blocked aerosol particles (by which COVID is transmitted) from hitting a collection chamber—the study found cloth mask filtration efficiencies as low as 1.4 percent!

Speaking to the Washington Post this month about the efficacy of N95 masks and how long they can be worn, Michael G. Knight, an assistant professor of medicine at George Washington University., said, “In the ideal world — or pre-pandemic — many masks were really viewed as single-use.”

In fact, pre-pandemic, the CDC said the guideline for N95 masks was that they should be worn only for 2 to 3 hours each before changing to a new mask and if you came in contact with an infected individual you needed to change your mask immediately.

Based on the above comments from experts, as reported by liberal media outlets, Milwaukee’s new cloth mask mandate is USELESS as it will not require individuals to wear the massively more effective N95 masks.

As Dr. Wen argues, the Milwaukee Common Council’s cloth mask mandate is requiring nothing more than “facial decorations.”

Additionally, as with many of the mandates along the way over the last two years, this move is too little too late in regards to Omicron because case numbers are already peaking, according to experts, and by the time this mandate kicks in the threat from Omicron will be diminished.

Further, while the City has recently distributed free N95 masks, there are not enough N95 masks to go around for nearly 600,000 Milwaukee residents—and visitors that number in the hundreds of thousands—to allow each individual a new N95 mask each day.

Do the math for Milwaukee residents: nearly 600,000 personas multiplied by 45 days (estimated mandate length and it may be longer) totals 27 MILLION N95 MASKS.

Does the City have access to 27 million N95 masks?

Does the City have a plan to distribute 27 million N95 masks equally to each resident over the next month?

Does the City have the staff to check up on each of its nearly 600,000 residents to ensure they are wearing their masks when required AND wearing them properly AND changing out their masks each day to ensure the highest level of efficacy?

If you wish to wear a mask, wear one—it’s your choice and right, just as it is your choice and right to decide whether or not you receive the vaccines.

But the City’s new cloth mask mandate provides nearly ZERO (cloth masks as pointed out above may have efficacies as low as 1.4%) safety and is nothing more than an overreach of local government and another “do something just for appearances” strategy.”
