Minnesota’s Walz being considered for VP pick

(The Center Square) – Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is currently being vetted by Kamala Harris’s campaign as a potential vice president nominee pick.

Walz would serve as a progressive foil to Trump’s fellow midwesterner pick, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance. Multiple sources suggest Walz was asked to submit vetting materials alongside Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker.

If Walz were to become vice president, he would join the ranks of many VPs from Minnesota, including Hubert Humphrey, under Lyndon B. Johnson, and Walter Mondale, under Jimmy Carter. As the current co-chair of the Democratic National Convention’s rules committee, he will already be at the front and center of the nomination process.

Wednesday afternoon, Minnesota Democratic Congresswoman Angie Craig endorsed Walz as Harris’ VP pick.

“I know what it takes to run and win tough races – so does Tim Walz,” Craig said on X. “We are in the middle of one of the most consequential presidential races in our country’s history – and we need a battle-tested leader on the ticket. That’s why I’m all in on Gov. Tim Walz for VP.”

Walz has made numerous television appearances over the past few days, both defending Harris and attacking Vance. He appeared on PBS on Monday, and Fox News and MSNBC on Tuesday.

“I’m not going to get into the details of what we spoke about, but, look, I think seeing the shared values we have, seeing an agenda that actually gets to the issues we care about…I want to do what I can do to make that happen,” Walz said on PBS.
